Projects

Mmametlhake Family Care Center

The Mmametlhake Family Care Centre, MFCC, is Hand in Hand in Africa's longest-supported partner. In fact, Board Chairman, Andy Wilkinson, and Board member Clif Ingram, helped found MFCC and establish its NPO status in South Africa in 2004. From workshops and training events, to medical treatment and hospice care, MFCC is actively involved in caring for the needs of its community members. Recently, MFCC was awarded their second US Peace Corps volunteer. She worked with full-time African staff to enhance services and programming including a four-day activities workshop for kids, a Teen Pregnancy Awareness clinic, “True Love Waits” rallies, and a “Men for Change” program.

MFCC also is assisting in developing HIV/AIDS curriculum for the public schools and presenting at townhall meetings involving both traditional and government leaders. Participation in these activities and events are allowing MFCC to garner an excellent reputation among citizenry, government and school officials. They are visible, central and available to village life and making a significant impact. Lives not only are being changed, they are being saved.

Tabitha Ministries

Another partner through HIHIA is Tabitha Ministries in Kwa Zulu Natal Province. Tabitha cares for more than 60 orphaned and HIV infected children, over 5,000 children residing in child-headed households, and approximately 1,200 AIDS clients. HIHIA’s support of Tabitha helps with health care, education, and shelter for abandoned children.

Soccer Program

HIHIA continues to target new partners and programs and expand existing partnerships. In 2011, we joined an existing partner starting a soccer team in a rural village. Encouraging sports and active lifestyles has proven to lower HIV rates, crime rates-- death rates. HIHIA funded the purchase of soccer equipment and uniforms. The team came close to winning their first game, losing by only one point. Recent correspondence from the new team read, ”You have made a huge difference in our lifes, given us a blessing that no other man has given us, strengthened our hearts and hands!”

Extending our Hand

There is so much more to be done. We are optimistic about the long-term impact HIHIA can have in the lives of those stricken and affected by HIV/AIDS. We need and appreciate your continued support to help end this pandemic.
